  1. Dearest RTC,
That is an attractive looking snack.
Bet it tastes as good as my rice cakes, but it might be sweet... not like my Tamari with seaweed.
Thanks for sharing such a special tradition.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  5. Hello rtc, Well, this certainly looks like a Girls' Day snack, even if it does perpetuate the stereotype of pink and pastel for girls.

  8. The Doll Festival held every March 3 in Japan is especially dedicated to girls, which is why it is also known as the Girls' Festival. In it, the girls expose several dolls (ningyō (人形?)) dressed in traditional kimonos and are placed on different levels of a platform, up to 5 to 7 steps, covered with red cloth. These dolls represent characters of the imperial court of the Heian Era arranged hierarchically and passed from generation to generation within the family. It is also often decorated with peach blossoms as this festival is also known as Momo no Sekku, and the peach is a fruit that is associated with the female sex.
