The persimmon grows bigger and is becoming square. It will take four months for harvest. It is the rainy season now in my district. It will continue 40 days. Enough rains will grow plants healthy. When it is fine, the temperature will rise beyond 30℃ or 100F. Many people feel uncomfortable because of the high humidity.
The leaves are full of power. If you have visited Nara, an ancient capital, you might have tasted Kakinoha Sushi. The traditional sushi there is wrapped with a persimmon leaf. The sushi becomes more tasty by getting a good smell of this green leaf.
I found another asparagus today.
When it grows to 20 cm, I take it and boil with a pinch of salt. After boiling, I immediately cool it in the cold water to keep its wonderful color and taste.
Hello rtc, Of course you know that in Chinese culture, persimmons are lucky because their pronunciation "shi (柿)" is like the "shi (事)" meaning your personal affairs or things to do. Therefore, a pair (shi shi/柿柿) of persimmons symbolizes shi shi ru yi (事事如意), which is the lucky greeting, "may all your affairs go as you wish."
ReplyDeleteEver since I can remember, I have loved the book Stalking the Wild Asparagus by Euell Gibbons, whose eponymous chapter is about just that--finding and cooking wild asparagus.

There is not such a plant in Greece, my friend. It is so nice that you share all this great information with us. I am sure that the leaves of this plant make sushi delicious.
ReplyDeleteGetting warm there then.
ReplyDeleteInteresting about the persimmon leaves.
Right into asparagus at the moment making asparagus soup.
Dearest RTC.,
ReplyDeleteYour Persimmon looks so very healthy and I did not know they used its leaves for sushi.
We just came back from Europe and also my birth country The Netherlands where we enjoyed lots of white asparagus. By now the season is over with. Here in the USA you only find green asparagus.
Lovely photos!
Hugs,
Mariette
A special fruit.
ReplyDeleteI love to see how things grow. I eat the asparagus without cooking. I like the crunchy texture.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have fresh asparagus! It looks beautiful growing, too, rather unearthly. I didn't realise persimmons went square. I have only ever seen them when ripe.
ReplyDeleteI thought that was a pepper at first glance.
ReplyDelete柿子和芦笋,都是你自家种的吗?
