Good Autumn Days

Small persimmons under a mass of cirrocumulus
This kind is astringent and not suitable to eat raw even when its fruits are  fully ripe. People peel and hang them under the eaves for three weeks. Dried ones are very sweet.

I found cosmos flowers. I love to see them. What makes you feel that you are in Autumn?

  5. Hello RTC, In Ohio and similar cold areas in the U.S. persimmons will persist on the trees until there are several frosts, when they will soften and sweeten. Some people think the freezing is important, but more likely it just slows down the ripening process, which also eliminates the astringency. Persimmons are easily preserved, and do not rot on the trees in the same ways as apples and other more watery fruits do.

  6. It's true that ripe persimmons are very sweet, but if they are not, due to their high content of soluble tannins, they are very astringent in the mouth.

  7. I've only heard of persimmons; I've never had the opportunity to eat them. As you wrote, they're only good and sweet when dried. Generally, plums, for example, are dried here, but I prefer them straight from the tree. Best regards.
