One tall cherry tree stands in the garden. Visitors can enjoy the gorgeous silence here.
The gate to the tea house. The mud wall is made with old roof tiles piled up.

The guests wash their hands here before entering the house.
The white confection is "manju". Sweet red bean paste is enclosed in a wheat dough and steamed. Both sides are baked. The fresh green tea has a good harmony of bitterness and sweetness.

Hello RTC, So often delicate and beautiful surroundings are enhanced by such delicate and balanced refreshments. I love the wall made from old roof tiles--what a great idea to make an attractive wall instead of dumping the old tiles, which are beautiful in themselves, in a landfill. Still, it is too bad that so many traditionally-roofed buildings are disappearing.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, peaceful place. I am such a fan of red bean paste. I would greatly enjoy the manju
ReplyDeleteDearest RTC,
ReplyDeleteRemembering my visit to Happoen Gardens in July of 2007. A tea master did whisk the authentic Japanese green tea with a fine bamboo whisk. We each got two sweets before drinking it. No photos were allowed at that time but I sitll have the special memory.
Hugs,
Mariette
