Raise High The Arched Beams, Carpenters.

This is the entrance gate of Daichuji Buddhist temple located in mountains.
Passing through the gate, I got a view of the main hall in silence. A guide book says lots of young Buddhist priests studied Zen 100 years ago. This temple was founded in 1466. The present buildings were newly constructed in 1902.
I looked up the roof and found two beams carved excellently.
You can see a carp in waves.

The priests had meals in this building at the time.

  1. Dearest RTC,
That is an excellent reason for looking up in silence and for being in awe when viewing such beautifully hand carved beams! It takes your breath away and is uplifting to a higher being as no doubt those artists got inspiration!
Thanks for sharing this beauty and the special roof line always makes me think of the pagode style roofs you see a lot in Java, Indonesia and Bali...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  3. Hello rtc, The new temple is beautiful--I wonder if they kept any of the earlier parts as part of the construction. I have seen them rebuild temples in Taiwan, and little of the original structure is left. It is amazing the details they work into those elaborate carvings!

  5. The beam with fish on it lookes interesting. Old buildings are good to see. I drove through a street in town that have old houses. I enjoy seeing them. Have a good week!

  6. Beautiful carving! So intricately done. The place itself is very peaceful,no wonder Buddhists practice meditation in such a place. If I may ask you question, do you practise mindfulness or live by zen philosophy too? If yes then how, would love to know it's impact on you. Do share.
