Mikan (Japanese orange) 橘子

I got some mikans yesterday. To my surprise, each of them are put in a paper bag printed a red trade mark. I like this Mt. Fuji plate.
They were cut by scissors and still keep a part of the twig. This arrangement might have been done  to heighten the commodity value of this special mikan.
They are only 4 to 5 cm big.
Sweet? Yes! I feel as if this contained lots of sugar.

  1. Hello rtc, The little oranges really are beautiful. I had some like that imported from Japan to Taiwan (I bought them in Sogo department store), but I am not sure if they were exactly the same variety. Japan certainly does have some good fruit. A lot of newer varieties have been originating there in the last 100 years. In Cleveland, I found some Shizuka apples that were really good--we picked them on a farm slightly under-ripe, so that they were still a little tart.

  5. Looks delicious. We like mandarin oranges, which are small and less acidic than oranges. I have had a good holiday season and mostly well....lots of people coughing at church today. Mostly over colds, hopefully. I like your plate! Have a good week!

  6. Dearest RTC.,
Love the way they present them with elongated stem left on!
Also the individual wrapping inside the paper bag is special.
So those Mikan or Mandarin Oranges do also peel easily and have no seed.
So many plusses, as you already pointed out their sweetness too!
    Hugs,

  8. Desconhecia!
Feliz semana!
