It's nice to have soba (buckwheat noodle) in the season of cherry blossom.
The green paste on upper right is called wasabi 山葵, a native Japanese plant. It's sharp and sweet. You can get wasabi sold in a tube easily. However, most of them are mixed with horseradish. They are less sweet. The tempra on the right side is sakura-ebi or cherry blossom shrimp 櫻蝦天婦羅. You can enjoy fresh ones only in this season.
I love vegetable tempura, it's one of my favourite Japanese dishes. But I cannot eat wasabi, it is too strong for me and upsets my stomach.
ReplyDeleteMy husband lived in Japan for two years, he loves Soba, I love Wasabi.
ReplyDeleteThe Cherry blossoms are beautiful.

ReplyDeleteHello RTC, Such a profusion of beautiful blossoms! It's too bad it was a gray day, but that soba meal must have cheered you up.

Vietnamese are workers who go there to work and earn money that is not abundant in their country."
ReplyDeleteHere there is wasabi, it is green and spicy. In my country we are not used to spicy food.
It's lovely to see people enjoying the full bloom on the dike, including the Vietnamese visitors who are part of Japan's workforce. The soba with fresh wasabi and sakura-ebi tempura sounds like a delightful way to experience the cherry blossom season! The cherry blossom front map is also interesting to see.
ReplyDeleteI have a tiny bit of wasabi with soy sauce when I have sushi. It's too hot on it's own!
ReplyDeleteWe are used to eating boiled buckwheat groats and you eat buckwheat noodle. I would like to try it!
ReplyDeleteIt's always a pleasure to see the delicious foods you have for meals. The row of white blossom trees is lovely as ever.
