Laotian Coffee Beans and Silver Lion 老撾咖啡和銀製獅子

Last month I got a pack of coffee beans grown in Laos.
Laos is a small country located between Thailand and Vietnam. I have visited Vientiane, the capital, a few times almost 30 years ago and still feel a sense of closeness to its culture and people. At that time, many overseas companies had not invested to its industries and the country kept its tradition though the GDP was very low under socialism. No big factory had been established. I remember drinking beer brewed by a French capital. This would be an exception.
Things are changing and nowadays some of foreign investors focus on its environment and labour cost. Tully's is a one of them.

Tully's say they import coffee beans produced in a southern highland, 1100~1200 meters above sea level. A cup of Laotian coffee brings back memories from when I visited this small country in the south east Asia. Laos has been developing now under the global competition. I hope you would try some products exported from Laos.

When I visited Laos, I bought this silver lion. I like its eyes.
The hairstyle looks decent.
This animal is of bravery especially. I hope Laotian people stay safe amid the corona virus.

  1. Hello rtc, Does the Laotian coffee taste special? I sometimes get coffee grown in Taiwan, but most of the time in the morning I am too tied to care and just get Nescafe in packets. I like your silver lion, related to and yet different from Chinese lions--do you keep anything on it?

  3. I remember when the Americans dragged Laos into the south-east Asian war in the 60's/70s, but that's about all I know of this country. Lovely little silver lion!

  5. Dearest RTC,
Yes we wish all those countries that were/are under socialist rules the very best in spreading their wings and being able to partake in worldwide trade.
Love your silver lion from Laos!
Such small, but meaningful items are the ones we love to bring home from far countries.

  10. I love the silver lion...wondering how big it is.

I bet those coffee beans smell heavenly...wondering what the coffee would be like. A show we seen said Americans as a whole does not know what good coffee is...I suppose we like it a lot weaker than most people.

  15. I wish the people from Laos only the very best in life. I have never noticed coffee from there in my local supermarket, but maybe if I get on line. I love a good cup of coffee and am always curious about brands from other countries that I don't get to see locally. The silver lion is very pretty.
