Uesugi Shrine and Apples in Yamagata

The harvest time came in October at Yamagata in the northern Japan.
This was the first time for me to taste sweet apples in the orchard.
I visited Uesugi shrine at Yonezawa.
The gate architecture is beautiful.

A garden in the shrine area. You can see a small waterfall.
This is a typical Japanese old house.

  4. Hello rtc, There is no more beautiful sight for me than apple trees loaded with fruit, and the ones you show are particularly attractive. The few apples grown in Taiwan are all of the "sweet" kind--I prefer the tart ones, which are such a feature of late Fall in America. I wonder which kind yours was, since of course in a sense all apples are sweet.

  5. Dearest RTC.,
Entering such a shrine through these elaborate gates almost makes you sense a heavenly atmosphere. The garden architecture is always calming and of pristine beauty. Great for walking if you have the time at hand and for meditating.
Guess those apples with their pink blush were very sweet and juicy, right off the tree!
    A very blissful day...
    Hugs,

  7. What a sight to see the apple orchards. They look really good. Thanks for giving us a peek at one of the old houses in Japan. That's interesting for me to see. I didn't realize you were from northern Japan. I'm from northern California, where it gets a bit colder than the south end.

Wishing you wonderful December days. : )

  9. Years ago in winter I visited Yamagata. We stayed in a lovely ryokan and did some trips around the area. It was one of th emost beautiful spots I've ever seen! So I especially love seeing it here.
