BONSAI Exhibition 盆栽展覽會

It takes 30 to 50 years to make Bonsai Trees like below.
Skilled artisans often cut unnecessary buds, leaves and thin branches, always thinking deeply about the tree shapes in the future.
They sometimes wind a wire around a branch to change its shape better.
Trees never stop growing upward and getting unkempt. Art of Bonsai is based on ceaseless communication between plants and humans to achieve both excellency and growth.

This type of tree shape is called Kengai, which means a tree growing on a cliff. 懸崖五葉松樹
This is an azalea tree, having red flowers in May. Azalea bonsai needs lots of water.
They say you should water them in rainy days even holding an umbrella.  杜鵑花樹 品種名晃山

  1. I love bonsai. About 30 years ago, I took a course in making bonsai but it was much too difficult and I did not have the horticultural or artistic skills needed. So I must be content with simply looking at them instead. Thank you for this beautiful post!

  6. Hello RTC, In Taiwan there is a weekend plant market which has some dealers that feature bonsai. The good ones are expensive. It seems weird to me to spend decades tending such a plant only to sell it. By the way, the ceramic planters and wooden stands you showed us today are also exquisite!

  10. These bonsai trees are truly works of art! It's amazing to think that it takes decades of care and attention to create such beautiful specimens.

The dedication of the artisans is evident in the intricate shapes and details of the trees. It's clear that they have a deep connection with the plants and a passion for this art form.

The azalea bonsai is particularly stunning with its vibrant red flowers. It's a testament to the beauty and resilience of nature.
