We usually cross bridges made of steel and concrete. Do you remember when you crossed a wooden bridge by car? 10 years ago? 5 years? Just yesterday?! Really?
This bridge is still sometimes used for inhabitants driving a car under some regal limitations of safety. Two cars cannot pass each other on this. When a car finds another on it, the driver waits the other by the bridge.
I walked on the bridge imagining a rattling sound of planks made by a car. Wooden bridges are nostalgic, keep pleasant remembrances of childhood. There is another wooden bridge up the stream, which was used to take a historical samurai TV drama. The location is quite suitable for such dramas because there are no modern houses, advertisement boards and utility poles near the bridge.
Hello rtc, I agree with you about the charm of wooden bridges, and also old-fashioned bridges of many types. I was very upset when they replaced the old blackened sandstone bridge near my old house with concrete!
ReplyDeleteIf you like wooden bridges, you should come to Ohio, where antique covered wooden bridges are a specialty in the countryside. The wooden coverings are there to protect the wooden understructures from the weather:

What an old and charming wooden bridge. It looks very unique. It reminds me of something back in the day. What beautiful green surroundings along the bridge. I would probably walk over this bridge, but not sure I'd want to drive over it, as it doesn't look too sturdy.

ps....thank you for the comment you sent on my last post. It was very unique and special, and I even passed it along to the girls. : )
Wow! Is the bridge old? Have a nice new day
ReplyDeleteIt is very picturesque, I hope that it is strong enough to take a car. I expect it was built only for horses and carts!
ReplyDeleteI think this bridge is very nostalgic and charming.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely looking bridge.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine it is an excellent spot to be used in TV or films.
Great pictures.
All the best Jan
It's a beautiful bridge but it looks a little scary to me when I think of being on it in a car!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for coming by Marmelade Gypsy! I always love it when you visit!
Hello Jim, I saw bridges you had introduced me. 謝謝!
ReplyDeleteWooden bridges are old and amazing how there's quite a few here in Oregon. They are covered bridges and yes they are narrow too. Thanks for your journey of the bridge you photographed. I cross a bridge...actually an overpass, nearly everyday to work..metal and concrete. Thanks for visiting my blog and your kind comment!
ReplyDeleteI think I never crossed a wooden bridge by car.
ReplyDeleteOh, this must be a great experience.
Thank you for the lovely images, my friend.
Such wooden bridges are said to have a soul in them, it used to be like that and in my case it is now new - concrete.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt took some time to remember if I ever crossed a wooden bridge by car. There was one when I was a child (replaced by a modern one already many years ago). When it was raining, the surface of the bridge was slippery. :)
This bridge has such charm and blends so beautifully into the landscape. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to drive on it :-)

Dearest RTC,
ReplyDeleteWell not many cars will pass over this bridge I presume and for walking, it indeed does kind of transfer you to times in the past.
Beautiful photos!
Hugs,
